Day 2 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1142 PM CST Wed Feb 07 2018
Valid 091200Z - 101200Z
...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY...
Thunderstorm potential will increase Friday to include much of the
lower Mississippi Valley/Mid-South region and parts of the
Southeast.
...Discussion...
Broad cyclonic flow aloft will evolve into the day2 period as
heights gradually fall across the western US. A southerly current of
seasonally strong flow will extend along the Coastal Plain of TX
into the Mid-South which should encourage moisture to return to this
region enhancing the prospect for deep convection and possible
thunderstorms. In response to heights lowering in the West, LLJ
should evolve across the lower MS Valley late in the period and warm
advection should aid UVV across much of the area delineated by 10%
thunder line. LLJ should also develop across the Carolinas during
the latter half of the period which will prove favorable for ascent
in this region. Forecast soundings suggest the majority of
convection will be elevated in nature, though near-surface based
storms could form across portions of southern LA. Even so, forecast
instability/shear do not appear strong enough to warrant severe
probs at this time.
