   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          EAST CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA
          A SMALL PART OF SOUTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA
          CENTRAL AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING FROM 845 PM UNTIL
   300 AM EDT.
   
   TORNADOES...HAIL TO 0.5 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
   TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 80 STATUTE MILES NORTH AND
   SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 15 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF ATHENS GEORGIA TO
   55 MILES NORTHEAST OF COLUMBIA SOUTH CAROLINA.
   
   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
   PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
   WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
   WARNINGS.
   
   OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS TORNADO WATCH REPLACES TORNADO
   WATCH NUMBER 828...TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 830. WATCH NUMBER 828 830
   WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT AFTER 845 PM EDT. 
   
   DISCUSSION...THE REMNANTS OF IVAN ARE MOVING ENEWD FROM AL INTO N
   GA...WHILE THE MAIN CONVECTIVE BAND IS LOCATED NEAR THE SAVANNAH
   RIVER...WELL E OF THE CIRCULATION CENTER.  BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS
   IN THE LOW-MID 70S WILL SUPPORT AT LEAST WEAK BUOYANCY
   OVERNIGHT...WHILE VERTICAL SHEAR WILL REMAIN VERY STRONG FROM ERN GA
   ACROSS SC.  PRESENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE TORNADO THREAT WILL BE
   PRIMARILY IN THE CORRIDOR WHERE THE MAIN CONVECTIVE BAND /OR ANY
   ISOLATED STORMS E OF THIS BAND/ INTERACTS WITH A WEAK BAROCLINIC
   ZONE ACROSS SC.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 0.5 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
   GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
   MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 18040.
