   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 631

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
          SOUTHERN INDIANA
          WESTERN AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY
          SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 100 PM UNTIL 800
   PM CDT.
   
   ...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...
   
   EXTREMELY DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 90 MPH...LARGE HAIL
   TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN
   THESE AREAS.
   
   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 65
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES NORTHWEST
   OF POPLAR BLUFF MISSOURI TO 25 MILES SOUTHEAST OF LOUISVILLE
   KENTUCKY.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
   ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU1).
   
   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
   
   OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH REPLACES
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 630. WATCH NUMBER 630 WILL NOT
   BE IN EFFECT AFTER 100 PM CDT. 
   
   DISCUSSION...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SRN IL INTENSIFYING FURTHER
   AS THEY MOVE THRU AN EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS.  WIDESPREAD
   POSSIBLY SIGNIFICANT DAMAGING WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY A WELL ORGANIZED
   BOW ECHO/DERECHO THAT IS NOW MOVING EWD ACROSS SRN IL. ADDITIONAL
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG TRAILING BOUNDARY INTO SERN
   MO WHERE AIR MASS ALSO VERY TO EXTREMELY UNSTABLE.
   
   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 80
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 600. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 27035.
