   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 397
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1250 PM EDT THU JUN 14 2007
   
   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          MUCH OF EASTERN KENTUCKY
          PARTS OF SOUTHERN OHIO
          EASTERN AND PARTS OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE
          PARTS OF WESTERN VIRGINIA
          MUCH OF WEST VIRGINIA
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 1250 PM UNTIL
   900 PM EDT.
   
   HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
   MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 95
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 60 MILES EAST
   NORTHEAST OF CHARLESTON WEST VIRGINIA TO 40 MILES WEST NORTHWEST
   OF CROSSVILLE TENNESSEE.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
   
   DISCUSSION...WITH UPPER VORT TRACKING SWWD FROM WRN PA INTO
   WV...COUPLED WITH STRONG HEATING W OF APPALACHIANS  THUNDERSTORMS
   EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS MUCH OF WATCH AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON. 
   IN ADDITION TO LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS ARE LIKELY...PARTICULARLY
   ASSOCIATED WITH DEVELOPMENT OF CLUSTERS OF STORMS.
   
   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 03025.
