Mesoscale Discussion 0777
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0649 PM CDT Fri May 24 2019
Areas affected...southwest OK
Concerning...Tornado Watch 234...
Valid 242349Z - 250045Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 234 continues.
SUMMARY...The potential exists for severe gusts 65-80mph across
southwest OK with the evolving bowing segment during the next 1-2
hours.
DISCUSSION...A well organized bowing segment (255 degrees at 38kt)
is moving east across southwest OK in a very moist/unstable airmass.
KFDR VAD shows 30-35kt flow in the lowest 2 km parallel to the
orientation of the gust front. Flow in the mid troposphere
gradually strengthens to around 50kt from the southwest. Surface
conditions show temperatures near 80 degrees F and lower 70s
dewpoints resulting in about 3000 J/kg MLCAPE.
Several deeper thunderstorms cores embedded in the bowing segment
may potentially yield areas of 65-80mph gusts, as both a combination
of water loading and rear-inflow jet processes favor more intense
gusts---especially in areas from the bow apex through the north end
of the evolving bow.
