   Mesoscale Discussion 1856
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0937 PM CDT Sat Aug 05 2023

   Areas affected...Southern High Plains

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 588...591...593...

   Valid 060237Z - 060430Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 588, 591,
   593 continues.

SUMMARY...Severe threat will spread southeast across the southern
High Plains this evening. Hail/wind are the primary risks.

DISCUSSION...Seasonally strong northwesterly flow extends across
eastern CO into northern OK this evening in response to the
progressive short-wave trough ejecting across the central High
Plains. Scattered strong/severe thunderstorms have developed across
southeastern CO into the OK/northern TX Panhandle. This activity is
propagating southeast just north of an old outflow boundary. Latest
VWP data suggests 1km flow has increased ahead of this activity with
20-30kt southerly flow common across the TX Panhandle into northwest
OK. Additionally, lightning is gradually increasing with storms over
southwest KS into the eastern OK Panhandle, and this trend may
continue over the next few hours. With time, multiple thunderstorm
clusters should propagate toward northwestern OK.
